Second Spring
Temporal Illustration & Zine
Ceramic / Brass / Oak / Ice / Time
(2023 - ?)
Second Spring is the culmination of my research and experimentation during my Masters at Arts University Plymouth.
Exploring illustration in the third and fourth dimensions. With a thematical focus on rituals and folklore. Second spring is an piece that illustrates the hypothesised lifetime of a Trans Person.
Taking form as a living burial, a place where grave goods and gifts can be placed. The burial, that normally serves the function of aiding the deceased in the afterlife, now is a prophetic illustration of a possible trans existance. Each trinket left in the burial is made of materials with different lifespans. These trinkets represent the multiple facets and beings of a trans person. We do not know what we will hold dear or important in 1 year, 1 decade, 1 lifetime.
Western culture lacks the relevant tradition and ceremony that I need in life. Trans existance has been purposefuly erased from our history books. This illustration and subsequent instruction zine is an act of defiance and promotion against a clinical and cisheteronormative life.
